Five months to go!

Neither of us can believe that, as of tomorrow, our wedding will be only five short months away. The past few months have flown by. With each decision made, there seems to be two more that pop up on the list. We're having fun with all the planning, though, and are so lucky to have family and friends who have helped to make this time even more special for us.

The most recent big planning milestone has been meeting with the cake bakery, Specialty Cakes. We found a wedding cake design we both love and can't wait to see how it turns out on The Big Day!

We have an appointment next week to meet with our second caterer, Secret Recipes, for a food tasting. So, hopefully we'll have a menu all set to go after that.

Other decisions we've been working on lately have been ceremony, social hour and reception music; table centerpiece ideas; invitation design; and getting our guest list with addresses put together. And just this evening Kaushal was excitedly talking with is brother Krupal about bachelor party plans.

The time between now and April really is going to fly!

We're trying The Knot!

While we'll continue to update this blog periodically, we've started a more personalized wedding website through The Knot. You can access it via the link below:

TheKnot

Our wedding day is really starting to take shape as we're making a lot of progress with our planning. We've chosen our American Food catering company,
Secret Recipes (www.secretrecipescatering.com); and the photographer we're using, Studio 131 Photography (www.studio131photo.com). The florist and cake bakery also have been chosen, with meetings scheduled for later in the fall.

We've had a few meetings with our wedding planner to discuss table linens and the overall decorating for the reception. We can't wait to see how it all turns out.

This Friday, we'll be taking a trip to Chicago to meet with a possible Indian food caterer, as well as trips to dress stores to look at Indian wedding dresses and saris.

Time is going by so fast, but we're happy to be making steady progress. We hope all our family and friends are doing well, and we're really excited for when the day finally is here and we can share it with all of you.

Update and Song Selections

Sorry for the lack of updates. We've been making steady progress getting ready for the wedding. There are still a ton of things to do. Right now, we are meeting with caterers. We'll have a menu finalized very soon.

We also have meetings with photographers next week. Someone at Kaushal's office joked they would do it for $100 on their Iphone! While you can't beat that price, we're looking for someone with more professional experience. If you have suggestions, feel free to leave them in the comments.

Also, if you have any songs you wished to be played at the reception, please let us know. However, there are certain songs that will NOT be played such as the Macarena and anything by Jason Mraz.

Things to do

For our guests who will be traveling from out of town, we hope you’ll be able to get a little taste of Springfield while you’re here.

Springfield is most famous for one particular resident, Homer Simpson. In honor of Homer, you can visit Mel-o-Cream donuts. The company was founded here in 1932 and remained a Springfield staple every since.

Coming in a close second is Springfield's other most famous resident, Abraham Lincoln. And our city has plenty of Lincoln sites. The Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum, Lincoln’s home and tomb; and the Old State Capitol are some of the best among them.

If you’re interested in architecture, the Frank Lloyd Wright designed Dana Thomas House might be a nice diversion from all the Lincoln sights.

And if you like food, there are plenty of restaurants to satisfy a beastly appetite! For those of you who saw the Springfield edition of Man v. Food, you can visit Darcy’s Pint, Cozy Dog and Joe Rogers’ Original Recipe Chili Parlor for yourself. If you like pancakes, you might also like Charlie Parker’s, which was featured on another Food Network show, Diners, Drive-ins and Dives.

You might also like to eat at Robin's favorite place and where we went on our first date: Panera Bread on Wabash Ave., then go for a drink where we met, Brewhaus on Washington St.

Here's a map with some of the attractions.
